Tuition Assistance Programs

There are a number of ways that you can receive tuition assistance to offset the cost of your child’s tuition. Assistance is offered through the Tuition Assistance Program, the Charles County Catholic Business’ Association, St. Mary’s Bryantown Parish and the Shopping Cards program. Please review the following information carefully.

Tuition Assistance Program through the Archdiocese of Washington
The Archdiocese of Washington strives to keep Catholic education as affordable as possible. Tuition assistance is available to students, grades PreK through 12, who are currently enrolled in Catholic schools within the archdiocese, including Charles County. You may apply for tuition assistance for the 2013-2014 school year beginning October 1, 2012, through the TADS system. The deadline for returning students is December 7, 2012. New students registering for the 2013-2014 school year have a deadline of February 18, 2013.

Visit the Archdiocese’s web site for additional tuition assistance opportunities.
Charles County Catholic Business’ Association
The Charles County Catholic Business’ Association supports Catholic education and fosters faith formation. Contact the association for more information on the tuition assistance that they offer.
St. Mary’s Bryantown Parish
St. Mary's Bryantown Parish offers tuition assistance on a case by case basis. In order to expedite this process, we ask that prior to requesting parish assistance, you complete and submit a tuition assistance form to the Archdiocese. Email Principal Sharon Caniglia at caniglia@bryantown.org or Father Conley at conley@bryantown.org to schedule a meeting to discuss your circumstances.

St. Mary’s Bryantown Tuition Assistance Gift Card Program

April 1, 2012-March 31, 2013

The Tuition Assistance Program is established for St. Mary’s families to directly and indirectly lower their cost of tuition. By using this program, families can directly earn credit for next year’s tuition. Or you can build on an account to donate to a more needy family with no additional costs to you. The program also funds operational costs at the school, which indirectly helps to keep tuition costs lower. Last year, during the 2011-12 school year families earned over $22,000 by using this program. This program is run by the school families, for their benefit and that of the school.

How do I participate?

~Each enrolled family has an account established in our database. There are several ways to order cards:

~Process a physical paper order, weekly through the “White Envelope”, or attend the announced Walk Up sessions
~Process an electronic order through www.shopwithscrip.com, and send in your check for payment through the “White Envelope”
~Order through www.shopwithscrip.com, and have your payment automatically deducted from your checking account

You purchase the card at face value, and the earnings are placed in your tuition account until the current year program end date. All earnings are split on a 70/30 ratio, with the families gaining the majority of the benefit. An example is outlined below:

Example: A merchant offers a 10% discount

-A Family purchases $100 in gift cards

-The family earns $7 / the school earns $3

What stores are available?

The program offers over 900 merchants, from various categories of business. St. Mary’s has partnered with GL Scrip, who is the largest operator for store cards in the US. Through this partnership, we all receive the benefit of this earning potential. GLScrip controls the stores offered and what discounts are associated with each card.

In addition, St. Mary’s has approached several local merchants to be involved. They are:

Food Lion – offers 5%

Ledo (Charlotte Hall only) –offers 10%

Nick’s of Clinton – offers 5%

BJ’s – offers 2%

Spirit of America Car Wash (located by Nick of Clinton) – offers 15%

Mc Kay’s – offers 5%

Rita’s – offers 10%

How will I track my earnings?

  1. www.shopwithscrip.comoffers reporting that you can run yourself showing your activity. However these reports list the full benefit and you would have to calculate 70% of those figures.
  2. St. Mary’s will provide quarterly updates, which are issued with student report cards. These updates show summary level activity on your account. If you don’t receive a statement from St. Mary’s it would mean you have not participated in the program.

How will I receive my earnings?

Families must earn at least $25 in rebates to receive any earnings, otherwise it will default to the school. Once you pass that threshold, distribution of your account can be as follows:

1. Your tuition account will be credited, reducing your tuition balance for the next school year.

2. You may donate your earnings to another returning school family’s tuition account.

3. You may donate your earnings to the school. (A tax receipt will be provided on this choice.)

NOTE: If you do not return your form indicating your option choice, your earnings will automatically be credited to the school.

Additionally, all financial obligations due to the school (i.e. tuition payments, before and after care, hot lunch, etc …) must be current in order to receive credit towards next year’s tuition. If financial obligations are not current, the earnings will be used towards the outstanding balance due

8th grade families - as you will not be returning families to apply your tuition earnings, special accommodations have been established for your participation to off- set your student’s class trip.

All families are invited to be involved. Just contact Principal Caniglia with your interest.

IMPORTANT: If, for any reason, you do not complete the entire school year, all earnings will be donated to the school. In addition, you must also complete the following school year in order to receive your earnings. If you leave the school for any reason during the school year, you will forfeit your earnings.

RETURNED CHECK POLICY: A $25 SERVICE CHARGE WILL BE INCURRED ON ALL RETURNED CHECKS. IF full payment is not received within 5 business days once you have been notified by the school the delinquent funds will be recorded on your school account and an additional $25 service charge will be charged. This will be treated as all other financial obligations to the school and report cards will be held until payment and service charges are received.
